Washington, DC (April 15, 2010) - The remarkable founders of AARP and of the National Urban League will be honored during National Volunteer Week. Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, founder of AARP, and Ruth Standish Baldwin and Dr. George Edmund Haynes, co-founders of the National Urban League, will be inducted posthumously into The Extra Mile - Points of Light Volunteer Pathway. These heroes will be celebrated at a reception on April 20, 2010, during the annual week that celebrates people in action.

March 9, 2010 - "Give a Day, Get a Disney Day" - a first-of-its-kind program of Disney Parks - reached its goal of inspiring 1 million people in 2010 to give back to their communities through volunteer service in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada.

Since the program started just 10 weeks ago, on Jan. 1, a million people already have volunteered or have committed to volunteer in their communities, according to Disney Parks and HandsOn Network, the nation's largest volunteer network and a facilitator of "Give a Day, Get a Disney Day."

Contest will determine new logo and slogan for national service alumni On Monday, August 3, AmeriCorps Alums, the national organization for those who have served with AmeriCorps (and/or pre-AmeriCorps VISTA), will launch a contest designed to include the entire service community in the creation of a new logo and slogan. The winning logo will be featured on all collateral and marketing material for the foreseeable future and offers an unprecedented opportunity for the chosen designer.
