NEW YORK, June 13, 2015 – Today Citi celebrates its 10th annual Global Community Day, as more than 77,000 Citi volunteers in 487 cities spanning 93 countries and territories engage in service activities to benefit their local communities. As part of efforts to enable progress in cities across the globe, this annual event also highlights the depth of engagement Citi has with its partners. ServiceWorks – powered by AmeriCorps, the Citi Foundation and Points of Light – is a groundbreaking, national program that uses volunteer service as a strategy to help 25,000 underserved young adults in targeted U.S. cities develop the skills they need to prepare for college and careers.

generationOn, Points of Light’s youth service division is taking its mission to inspire, equip, and mobilize youth to take action that changes the world and themselves through service to Los Angeles for its first ever west coast Block Party. The event will be held Saturday, April 18, at Fox Studios and will recognize Hasbro Community Action Heroes who are making a difference in their local communities, and William Morris Endeavor (WME) for their commitment to youth and arts in communities around the world.

Hasbro Inc. and generationOn, the youth division of Points of Light, have named ten inspiring youth as Hasbro Community Action Heroes for making an extraordinary mark on the world through service. The ten service leaders, ages 6 to 17, have made a difference both in their hometown communities and across the world through hands-on service projects that create awareness for important social issues.

Points of Light will lead the nation in celebrating ordinary people accomplishing extraordinary things during National Volunteer Week, April 12-18. This annual event honors the people and organizations dedicated to taking action and addressing problems in their communities. National Volunteer Week draws the support and endorsement of President Barack Obama, who issued a national proclamation, and members of Congress, governors, mayors and municipal leaders, as well as corporate and community groups.

The Points of Light Civic Accelerator – the first national accelerator dedicated to investing in civic ventures – announced today the 14 ventures selected to participate in its spring 2015 program. This will be the sixth round of the Civic Accelerator since its founding in 2012. The ventures come from across the U.S. and include for-profits, nonprofits and hybrids that are creating opportunities for women and girls to succeed in today’s economy.

Viewers to Volunteers, which launches today at, is a new digital platform that empowers consumers to support causes they care about, for free. By watching and reading compelling and inspiring articles and videos on their smartphones, tablets and computers, and sharing these positive stories with others over social media, consumers direct funding to a variety of education, wellness and environmental projects across the country.

WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 27, 2015 – First Book and Points of Light today announced that five volunteers from across the country – all dedicated to improving literacy in their communities – will receive the Daily Point of Light Award. One honoree encourages kids to read to his dogs. Another wraps books as birthday presents. In ways that are meaningful to them, all are helping our nation’s children learn to read.

The 50th anniversary honors VISTA’s legacy of strengthening communities and creating opportunities that lift individuals out of poverty.

ATLANTA – Feb. 11, 2015 – Points of Light Board Chair Neil Bush announced today that Tracy Hoover, who has served as Points of Light’s president for the past 18 months, has been named the organization’s new chief executive officer. The decision was made by a unanimous vote of the Points of Light board.
